Mindfulness in Museums offers specialised training for mindfulness teachers who wish to integrate art into their practice, work within museum contexts, or explore new areas of application within the growing international fields of Arts & Health, Culture & Care and neuroaesthetics.
As an international expertise platform, Mindfulness in Museums develops educational programmes and professional training for qualified mindfulness teachers who want to work at the intersection of art, mindfulness and mental health.
Participants become part of a growing international network of Mindfulness in Museums trainers — professionals who work in their own regions with museums, cultural institutions and healthcare contexts. Together they form a network of practitioners contributing to the further development of the field where art, mindfulness and mental health meet.
(in collaboration with Oxford Mindfulness)
This online skills- and competency-based training offers experiential learning in working with art as a gateway to mindfulness practice.
In these modules we explore how historical and contemplative perspectives on art and wellbeing resonate with contemporary insights from (neuro)aesthetics, psychology and Arts & Health research.
In these modules the focus shifts toward application within participants’ own professional contexts. Participants develop their own mindfulness-in-art programme, tailored to their field of work.
Through peer reflection and supervision, participants receive feedback and guidance in refining their programme and implementation plan.
Upon completion, participants receive a Certificate of Attendance from Oxford Mindfulness.
(Train-the-Trainer Programme)
The first cohort of 12 trainers was trained in the Netherlands (2023–2024). An important insight from this programme was how essential the in-person museum experience is: learning together in the museum space, working directly with artworks, and practicing how to guide contemplative art experiences. Building on this experience, a new generation of trainings is currently being developed.
For future editions, we are exploring how the programme can be offered as a hybrid international training, combining online learning with an intensive in-person training held in museums. This format enables participants from different countries to learn together, while preserving the essential hands-on experience with artworks and the museum environment.
The programme is supported by professional supervision and mentoring, offered both individually and in small groups. Upon completion, participants receive a Certificate of Attendance from Mindfulness in Museums.
