H’ART Museum — The Netherlands

In collaboration with H’ART Museum in Amsterdam, Mindfulness in Museums developed a special mindfulness-based art experience during Museumnacht Amsterdam.

The programme invited visitors to  encounter art through guided meditation and mindful observation. In the midst of the vibrant energy of Museumnacht, the sessions offered a moment of pause — allowing participants to connect more deeply with the artworks and their own inner experience.

Through mindful engagement with art, visitors explored how attention, silence, and reflection can transform the way we experience artworks.

Museum Context

H’ART Museum presents major exhibitions with artworks from leading international museum collections. Located in the historic Amstelhof building in Amsterdam, the museum brings together art and stories from around the world.

The museum aims to create meaningful encounters between visitors and art. Within this context, mindfulness-based art experiences offer visitors an alternative way of engaging with exhibitions — focusing on presence, perception, and personal reflection.

MiM Programme

During Museumnacht Amsterdam, Mindfulness in Museums organised meditative art interventions that invited visitors to experience artworks through attention and stillness.

The sessions included:

  • a short mindfulness introduction

  • guided meditation with artworks

  • silent observation and sensory awareness

  • reflection on personal experience

These interventions created a moment of calm and focus within the dynamic atmosphere of the museum night.

Connection to Exhibition

The mindfulness sessions were connected to the exhibition:

Brancusi – The Birth of Modern Sculpture

Participants were invited to explore the work of sculptor Constantin Brancusi through mindful observation. Brancusi’s search for simplicity, essence, and spiritual meaning offered a powerful starting point for contemplative engagement with sculpture.

Through meditation and attentive viewing, visitors could explore how the experience of sculpture changes when attention slows down.

Impact

The sessions offered visitors a unique experience within the energetic setting of Museumnacht.

Participants discovered:

  • a deeper sensory awareness of sculpture and space

  • moments of calm and reflection within a busy cultural event

  • new perspectives on how art can support awareness and mental health
