For participants

Mindfulness in Museums lets you look at art in a different way. Several museums in the Netherlands offer our program to let you discover the art in their exhibition or collection in a surprising way.

Mindfulness is about the art of being present in the here and now, being fully aware of the current experience. Mindfulness stimulates your well-being, helps you to deal better with the difficult aspects of life, and promotes your mental health and sense of well-being. Works of art are a beautiful source or ‘anchor’ to practice mindfulness with. A museum is therefore a nice, accessible place. You step out of the madness of the day, look at art, and let yourself be amazed. All programs are given by Founder Jolien Posthumus or one of the recognized and certified MIM mindfulness trainers from our team.

Very special to be able to hear from other participants what they have experienced, in addition to my own experience. And to remember that my experience is not that of everyone and that there are other experiences, perspectives and sounds.’ – participant

What do we do?

After a brief introduction, you will look at the art in the exhibition or permanent collection in a mindful way, with open awareness and curiosity. Jolien Posthumus will guide you in this in a meditative way (sometimes via a whisper set). Afterwards, we will come together and create space to investigate our experience. Be present, explore and discover the artwork as well as your own innerworld.

*Attending a mindfulness in museums program does not replace a 8-week mindfulness course, therapy or any clinical interventions.

‘Looking mindful at Art showed me I notice more when I look with attention, and that my thoughts not facts.’ – participant
